NGEN Winners create world-first virtual mentoring world for deaf teenagers

The winners of last year’s MFA Awards NGEN category have brought their unique idea to life and built a world-first virtual mentoring world for deaf teenagers inside Minecraft. The world, titled League of Hearoes, held its first event at the weekend with over twenty deaf or hard of hearing teenagers participating.

Industry generates a record $10.5m for social impact

UnLtd has announced a total industry contribution of $10.5m to social impact in FY18.

The total value of funds, services, inventory and time donated by the media, marketing and creative industry increased by 21% compared to the previous financial year due to a growth in corporate partners, and an increase in fundraising through events and media inventory donations.

NGENers learn the 5 rules of Dodgeball: Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and DONATE

The NGEN community has continued their great tradition of the fiercely competitive Charity Cup Dodgeball tournament and raised over $27,000 for Whitelion, an UnLtd charity partner.

Now in its fifth year, the annual tournament is a chance for the NGENers to get competitive, throw some fast balls at their rivals and raise some much-needed funds for UnLtd charity partners.

The Big Climb

On 28 June 2018, Venessa Hunt and Renee Fittock will be swapping their mountains of emails to conquer a physical mountain. Not just any mountain either, Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world. The climb is supporting Mirabel, an UnLtd charity partner who help children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use.

7 Melbourne industry leaders to be locked up in jail to help young people at risk

Seven well-known media and marketing leaders in Melbourne will be locked up behind bars on Friday 25 May to raise funds and awareness for Whitelion, an UnLtd charity partner.

Following on from the success of the Adland Bail Out in Sydney that saw 70 industry leaders spend the night in prison and raise over $140K to fund Whitelion’s outreach program, this time it’s Melbourne’s turn to experience what life in prison really is like for many young people.

Big Clash raises over $120K

With over 50 companies taking part, the fourth annual Big Clash cricket tournament has been the biggest yet raising $124,000.

The event once again brought the industry together for a great afternoon of cricket, drinks, music and charity activations. This year, the event was expanded to have Media Owners, Media Agencies, Techies and Creatives all go head to head in a knockout tournament.

Big Clash teams confirmed - all corners of the industry to battle it out to raise over $100K

The fourth instalment of The Big Clash is bringing the media, marketing and advertising industry together for a game of highly competitive cricket whilst aiming to raise over $100,000 for UnLtd charity partners.

This year the event is expanding to feature four teams – media agencies, creative agencies, media owners and technology firms and also launching in Melbourne. Each team is aligned to one of the UnLtd charity partners helping children and young people at risk.

We are #mmad4u!

The media, marketing and creative industry has been asked to tell who they are ‘#mmad4’ this Friday 1st December in a bid to help raise awareness for Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD) and young people who just need someone to believe in them.

The campaign encourages individuals to take a selfie with a #MMAD4U sign, post the shot on their socials and tag someone to let them know you believe in them and say “I’m #MMAD4U”.

Industry makes a Big Splash for social impact

The media and marketing industry swapped sales for sails at the inaugural UnLtd Big Splash regatta on Friday 3 November, generating over $60,000 for social impact.

The inaugural event saw ten highly competitive teams race head to head across Sydney Harbour on Elliot sailing boats whilst generating much needed funds for UnLtd’s charity partners working to combat youth disadvantage. The sailors were cheered on by the guests on the spectator boat enjoying a far more leisurely cruising experience. After several races, sweat and blisters, Team Mindshare sailed to victory and were crowned the winners of the Big Splash, closely followed by Yahoo!7 and AdRoll.

UnLtd appoints Chris Freel as CEO

Media and advertising industry social purpose organisation UnLtd has appointed former Fairfax and Pandora Commercial Director Chris Freel as its CEO, replacing Paul Fisher who is relocating overseas in December for family reasons.

Freel is the creator of ‘The Big Clash’ cricket event which has raised over $100,000 for various charities, including UnLtd. He is also an Advisory Board Member of Newco, which celebrates and connects the engines of positive change in society. Most recently Freel was Commercial Director ANZ at Pandora.

Adland personalities in yellow lycra

On a dark and chilly Wednesday morning, a peleton of yellow jerseys hit the Centennial Park bike track as Team UnLtd prepares for the 2017 Bowral Classic race. Avid (and occasional) cyclists in the media and marketing industry have begun a series of social training sessions in the lead up to the one day Gran Fondo cycling event on 22 October 2017 which will see over 3,000 riders race across the rolling hills of Southern Highlands.

The Yellow Jersey Challenge

On 22 October 2017, UnLtd is sending a fleet of cyclists in yellow jerseys to the one day Gran Fondo cycling event, the Bowral Classic.

The second Bowral Classic will see over 3,000 riders race around the stunning scenery and rolling hills of Southern Highlands. Riders will have three options to accommodate for all fitness and skills levels – the Social Classic 45km, the Challenge Classic 120km and the ultimate Maxi Classic 160km.

NGEN doesn't dodge their opportunity to make social change

NGEN has continued its fine tradition of fierce competition with its NGEN Charity Cup, holding dodgeball competitions in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to raise $30,000 nationally for UnLtd charity partner, Hear For You, the official benefactor of the Cup’s efforts.

This year, in an effort to put NGENers in the place of someone who is hearing impaired, the teams that competed for second place had to play a silent dodgeball challenge match. Players were given headphones and earplugs, while the crowd watched on in complete silence, to simulate the experience of playing dodgeball with hearing impediments.

Yellow is the new black - industry leaders spend night behind bar and raise over $27K for Whitelion

Fifteen of the ad industry’s big wigs who ditched their suits for yellow UnLtd overalls as part of the ‘Adland Gang’ at Whitelion’s Sydney Bail Out last Friday have beaten expectations, raising over $27,000. This placed the Adland Gang as the highest earning group of the event with the highest average raised per inmate. This fantastic effort contributed to the overall total of $87,438 raised for Whitelion NSW.

Power of One Day: $150,000 generated for UnLtd charities by the power of GroupM

This year Group M’s annual ‘Power of One’ day saw its largest turn out yet, with over 500 employees across all their agency offices in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane working as one to give their time and skills to add value and raise funds for UnLtd charities.

On Friday 24th February, all offices across the agency network took time to give back to the local community, delivering over $150,000 in value for several UnLtd charity partners. Each employee chose a cause close to their heart and spent time at a briefing with the specific charity to further understand their particular challenges. It was then their opportunity to give back through valuable and impactful activities, getting involved in skilled volunteering, unskilled volunteering or fundraising initiatives.

Big Clash is back for the third year - bigger and better

Rival media owners and agencies will put competition aside in Sydney on Thursday 16 February 2017 when they take to the field for “The Big Clash”, a special annual 20/20 charity cricket match to raise funds for UnLtd. This year, in support of Mindshare Chief Investment Officer, Nicola Lewis, who in mid-2016 was diagnosed with breast cancer, the match will also raise funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia.

Unprecedented growth in industry participation and social investment led to a 71% year-on-year increase in the total value of funds, services, inventory and time donated by the media and marketing sector.

OMD's $1.6 social impact for kids in foster care

OMD’s work on the National Pyjama Day campaign has seen the media agency contribute $1.6m in value to young people living in foster care.

The annual fundraising event hosted by UnLtd’s charity partner, The Pyjama Foundation, sees donors register online and activate their friends and work colleagues, to wear pyjamas for the day and donate funds.

NGEN doesn't dodge their social conscience

UnLtd appoints Paul Fisher to lead UnLtd movement

UnLtd has appointed former IAB chief Paul Fisher as CEO, to lead its continued efforts in undoing youth disadvantage on behalf of the industry.

Paul was CEO of the IAB for five years from 2008, leaving the industry body in 2012 for an APAC regional role leading Nielsen’s Media business. He is currently consulting to the IAB and serves as a non-executive director with UNICEF Australia.
