The Big Climb

On 28 June 2018, Venessa Hunt, Head of Digital Investment and Partnerships of GroupM and Renee Fittock, previously VP Operations and Platform at [m] Platform will be swapping their mountains of emails to conquer a physical mountain. Not just any mountain either, Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

Venessa and Renee are embarking on The UnLtd Big Climb to raise awareness for children who battle internal mountains far greater than most of us can imagine every day of their lives. The climb is supporting Mirabel, an UnLtd charity partner who help children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use. Mirabel’s mission is to break the destructive cycle of addiction by supporting these young people who remain the most profoundly overlooked casualties of substance abuse in our society.

Venessa commented on the challenge: “Kilimanjaro inspires transformation. Standing on the roof of Africa, it is said you see the world in a different way. What seemed impossible in your life might just be doable. The mountain is a place for vision, inspiration, and a new beginning – and that’s what we plan to bring to the kids that need it the most. To show them anything is possible.”

As part of the fundraising campaign for The Big Climb, Venessa and Renee hosted an industry trivia night with fierce competition for the top prize – a day of sailing on the private yacht of Mark Lollback, CEO of GroupM. Participating teams included GroupM, Mediacom, Mindshare, Wavemaker, mPlatform, Xaxis, Nine, Newscorp, inmobi, Fairfax, MCN, Yahoo/Oath, Mamamia, CarsGuide and Pedestrian with Nine taking home the top prize.

We all have the potential to make a positive difference in the world and Venessa and Renee are great examples of this.
