Jeremy entered the foster care system at just 18-months-old. Still a baby, scared and vulnerable, it is estimated that he had a total of 27 foster care placements prior to finally being moved to a long-term foster home where he still lives today.
Jeremy recalls being very unhappy in the early years of life, finding it hard to learn and often being suspended from school. Jeremy didn’t receive a report card until grade 4, regularly being told that he couldn’t be assessed due to his very poor behaviour.
10 years ago, Jeremy’s Pyjama Angel Julie came into his life. When she first came to visit, Jeremy was scared as so many adults had walked in and out of his life before and he wasn’t sure that he could trust her.
When Jeremy first met Julie, he couldn’t read and was in the Special Education Unit at school. At this time in his life, he felt that he would never make it to Graduation or be able to be independent. As he started high school everything began to fall into place, he was mainstream schooled and last year achieved his dream of graduating grade 12.
His Pyjama Angel Julie was of course there for him every step of the way, proudly attending his graduation. In Jeremy’s own words he said that he “owes her so much” for always believing in him and helping him through all the demands of his high school years.
Today Jeremy is just about to turn 18, he’s got his driver’s license, he’s purchased his first car and he’s well on the way of pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming an actor.
Without the support of UnLtd, The Pyjama Foundation would not have the ability to spread the word about its vital Love of Learning Program as widely as possible. This support is fundamental to helping this Program grow and continue supporting many more vulnerable children just like Jeremy.
How UnLtd helps children like Jeremy:
UnLtd supports The Pyjama Foundation by providing funding for their Pyjama Angels program as well as creating partnerships with organisations such as OMD and Network 10.
