From the streets to the floor of NSW Parliament: how the MFA Award winners turned their entry into reality

After winning the NGEN category in the 2013 MFA Awards, John Dawson and Mark Golafshan, have worked with Youth Off The Streets to turn their entry into reality.

The #laceitup campaign will raise awareness and donations for Youth Off The Streets from young people between 13 and 17 years of age.

The challenge set out in the NGEN brief was to encourage fundraising and participation in the charity’s Sleepout campaign.

$40,000 raised for KidsXpress in the UN LTD CUP

While the world’s best were kicking about in Rio, the UN LTD Cup’s third annual charity competition saw 160 media industry people  battle it out for bragging rights as the industry’s futsal winners, all in the name of raising money for KidsXpress (one of UN LTD’s charity partners).

The UN LTD Cup held at Appnexus Stadium (KGV, The Rocks) is an industry fundraising event directly supporting KidsXpress, where teams are put into two pools and play a round robin to win their way into the finals. Out of the 16 teams battling it out in a highly competitive environment, the final results saw Fairfax take out the coveted award taking first place against Zenith Optimedia & Razorfish with the final score a resounding 5-0.

The inaugural NGEN Basketball Charity Competition was a knockout event with mammoth support that saw funds raised reaching $12,000 for UN LTD’s worthy beneficiary, Batyr.

NGEN members were given the opportunity to vote where the money went and Batyr; a charity committed to encouraging young people to speak out about mental health issues and headed by CEO Sebastian Robertson was the standout winner.
